List of events affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many events around the world to be cancelled or postponed due to a country's government imposed restrictions of large gatherings.[1][2] Among the most prominent events to be affected were the 2020 Summer Olympics, Expo 2020, UEFA Euro 2020 and Cópa America 2020 which have been postponed to 2021,[3][4] and the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, which was cancelled entirely. A number of events have been modified to remove a live audience or to be purely held over teleconference.

Political events
- 2020 U.S. Democratic Party presidential debate #11 (March 15, 2020): The Democratic National Committee initially announced that the debate would be held with no studio audience or third-party press at its originally-planned venue in Arizona Federal Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.[435] To reduce unnecessary travel, the DNC later announced that the debate would be relocated to the Washington, D.C. bureau of its host broadcaster CNN instead.[436]
- 2020 Democratic National Convention: Initially, the convention was downsized and relocated from Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee to the nearby Wisconsin Center, with only 1,000 attendees and delegates conducting official business remotely (but later reduced to 250 due to local health orders).[437][438] It was to feature a mix of content from Milwaukee and other locations, including Joe Biden and Kamala Harris formally accepting their nomination on-site. On August 5, it was announced that the in-person events had been cancelled, and that Biden and Harris would instead accept their nominations from Biden's home state of Delaware.[439][440][441] The Wisconsin Center was instead used as a host broadcast facility and a location for speeches conducted by local politicians, with all other speeches being presented from various locations across the country.[442][443] The programming was hosted from a studio in Los Angeles,[444] while Biden and Harris performed their acceptance speeches from the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware. None of the speeches had an in-person audience,[445] although Biden and Harris made an in-person appearance to a drive-in audience outside the Chase Center after his acceptance speech for a fireworks show.[446] The roll call featured delegates presenting their votes from locations in their home states.[447]
- 2020 Republican National Convention: Originally expected to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 2 President Donald Trump announced that its festivities would be moved to a different location, as Governor Roy Cooper would not allow it to be held in-person at-capacity.[448] The RNC later announced that in-person festivities would be moved to Jacksonville, Florida (with Trump's acceptance speech at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena), but that official business would still take place in Charlotte with a reduced agenda.[449][450] On July 23, Trump announced, amid a surge in Florida, that the Jacksonville components of the convention had been cancelled.[451] 332 delegates attended the official meeting in Charlotte on August 24, where Trump and Vice President Mike Pence made in-person speeches during the roll call. Most of the speeches were pre-recorded[452] in Washington D.C., primarily from the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium.[453] The final two nights featured speeches by Pence and Trump from the South Lawn of the White House, in front of a crowd of 1,000 guests.[454]
- Philippine State of the Nation Address (July 27, 2020): Physical attendance during the annual presidential speech at the Batasang Pambansa Complex was limited to 50 people.[455]
- Inauguration of Joe Biden (January 20, 2021): Only 1,000 people attended the inauguration mostly from the United States Congress, with traditional inaugural festivities to be conducted virtually similar in the 2020 Democratic National Convention.[456]
